Properties

The stones offered here are natural Moonstones, shaped into tumbled stones. They have a smooth and homogeneous texture, ideal for comfortable handling. Composed of aluminum and potassium silicate, Moonstone reveals a pearly white hue, enhanced by bluish or orange reflections that appear only at certain angles depending on light refraction. This phenomenon, known as adularescence, varies according to the internal structure of each stone.

Each tumbled Moonstone is unique: Some display more or less intense reflections and may contain inclusions of Black Tourmaline or Hematite, which contrast with its clarity. These natural variations make each stone a singular specimen, with its own interplay of colors and reflections.

Moonstone

Moonstone, also known as Adularia, is a natural gemstone prized for its pearly reflections, ranging from silvery white to blue, with shades of orange. Its name evokes the soft and mystical glow of the lunar body, recalling its subtle shine and changing brilliance.

Moonstone is composed of aluminum and potassium silicate. As a mineral from the feldspar family, it is primarily made up of Orthoclase (KAlSi₃O₈). During its formation, part of the Albite (NaAlSi₃O₈) may exsolve into fine layers, creating a characteristic microstructure. This internal structure is responsible for adularescence, an optical phenomenon that gives Moonstone its distinctive glow. When light passes through the stone, it is refracted and scattered by fine feldspar layers formed during magma cooling. This phenomenon creates a soft, pearly light effect that appears to move across the stone’s surface depending on the viewing angle. The most sought-after specimens exhibit a silvery or bluish luminescence, without yellowish tones.

Moonstone primarily develops within deep magmatic rocks, such as granites and pegmatites, but also in certain metamorphic rocks. It forms when magma cools very slowly beneath the Earth's surface, allowing feldspar minerals to organize into a specific crystalline structure.

Moonstone is often used in the creation of fine jewelry, such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, and pendants, enhancing its pearly glow and fascinating play of light.

Lithotherapy - Benefits and Virtues

Moonstone is associated with the throat chakra, the fifth chakra. In lithotherapy, it is reputed to promote astral dreams and facilitate astral travel. It is thus used in meditation to assist practitioners in exploring subtle planes and improving the clarity of astral visions.

In this context, it is sometimes integrated into energy practices aimed at smoothing the transition between wakefulness and dreaming, thereby facilitating a more conscious experience of sleep phases and out-of-body experiences.

How to Use Moonstone?

Moonstone can be used in different ways depending on the desired effect:

Under the pillow: Placed under the pillow, it is often used to promote astral dreams.

In the dominant hand: Holding Moonstone in the dominant hand (right for right-handed individuals, left for left-handed individuals) is believed to facilitate astral travel.

On the fifth chakra (throat chakra): Placed directly on this area to enhance astral travel.

It is best to experiment with these different methods to determine which one best suits your needs and sensitivity.

Care Tips

Moonstone does not fear water, but it is best to avoid prolonged immersion, particularly in saltwater, as it may alter its surface and diminish its glow. A simple cleaning with a soft cloth or a quick rinse with clear water, followed by immediate drying, is sufficient to maintain it without risk. To protect it from scratches and shocks, it is advisable to store it separately from other stones or jewelry, in a fabric pouch or a suitable case.

Did You Know?

Renowned designers, such as René Lalique in France and Louis Comfort Tiffany in the United States, incorporated Moonstone into their jewelry for its ability to capture light and create a pearly and enchanting effect. Even today, Moonstone jewelry from this era is exhibited in prestigious museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
