Peridot – Olivine
Celestial Radiance from the Depths and the Scriptures
Peridot, also known as Olivine, is a fine natural gemstone with an intense and luminous green color. Its unique hue, ranging from lemon green to deep olive, is directly linked to its iron and magnesium content, distinguishing it from other gems whose color is due to impurities. It has a vitreous luster and remarkable clarity, once earning it the nickname “evening emerald.”
Born from the depths of the Earth, Peridot forms in volcanic rocks or basaltic lava. In Hawaii, it can even be found as crystals scattered along green sand beaches. Rarely, some Peridots come from meteorites, making it one of the very few gemstones that are both terrestrial and cosmic in origin.
Peridot is also one of the oldest gemstones used by civilizations. The Egyptians called it the “stone of the Sun” for its inner light, believed to protect against darkness. It is also mentioned in the Old Testament (Exodus), where it is thought to be one of the twelve stones of the high priest’s breastplate, symbolizing the tribes of Israel. Peridot is also associated with the prophetic visions described in the Old Testament, where Ezekiel, in chapter 1, depicts heavenly wheels shining like peridot (formerly known as chrysolite). In modern spiritual language, it is linked to the creative word, as it is said to help express the divine dimension within through aligned speech.
A stone of inner vision and meditation, Peridot inspires alignment between heart and speech. Through its vibrant beauty and symbolic depth, it is a jewel of fire, precious to both body and spirit.
